How to Hand Off a Task From One AI Agent to Another

A handoff is when a first agent and a second agent are working together in a coordinated fashion — like when a runner hands-off a baton in a relay race. Using Fulcra, you can make this easy to set up. Put both agents on one Fulcra account. The first writes to a shared file as it works, and the second reads that file before it starts.

‍

1. Connect both agents to Fulcra

Point each agent at Fulcra's MCP server, https://mcp.fulcradynamics.com/mcp, and sign in with the same Fulcra account. Ask each one to call get_user_info; both should return the same userid.

‍

2. Pick one path per task

Use a path such as /handoffs/billing-migration.md, spelled exactly the same in both instructions below.

‍

3. Tell the first agent to write as it works

Keep /handoffs/billing-migration.md current with Fulcra's write_file tool.
After every decision, dead end, or change of plan, rewrite it with:
- Goal
- Decisions made, and why
- What failed
- Open questions
- The exact next step
Do not wait until the task is done.

‍

4. Check the file history

Ask the agent to call list_files on the path with include_versions set to true. Each write adds a version, so you should see several. To undo a bad write, pass an older version's id to restore_file.

‍

5. Tell the second agent to read first

Before doing anything else on the billing migration, read
/handoffs/billing-migration.md with Fulcra's read_file tool.
Continue from "The exact next step," and keep the file
current the same way while you work.

‍

6. Test it

Open a fresh session with the second agent and ask what the next step is. It should answer from the file without you pasting anything.

Add a third agent the same way: connect it in step 1, then give it the instruction from step 5.

The future is personal and private.

Fulcra was designed by people who get privacy and know the importance of an infrastructure solution that can be the secure private datastore for the rest of your life. Here data is yours, under your control, and only shared with the people and tools you choose to share it with.
